Refer a Colleague (Referral Program)

Refer other clinicians to SOAP Note Buddy and you both save. It is built right into your account, with nothing to sign up for.

How it works

• They get 50% off their first month. When a colleague signs up through your referral link, their first month is half price, applied automatically.
• You earn account credit worth 50% of your plan for every colleague who subscribes. For example, on a $99 plan you earn about $49.50 of credit per referral. Credits add up as a real dollar balance and apply automatically to your future bills. Refer 2 colleagues and you have roughly a full month’s worth of credit, so your next month is effectively free.

Where to find your link

Your referral link lives in your account, in three places:

• The website at soapnotebuddy.com/account, under “Refer a colleague.”
• The iOS app, in Settings.
• The Chrome extension popup, in Settings.

Copy your link (for example soapnotebuddy.com/pricing/?ref=JSPTA1) and share it in a text, email, LinkedIn post, or anywhere else. When someone clicks it and subscribes, the 50% discount is applied for them automatically. There is no code to type, so just send the link.

When you actually earn the credit

Your credit is earned once your referred colleague’s 7-day free trial converts to a paid subscription (their first real payment). It is not earned during the trial, so you only get rewarded for colleagues who become real subscribers.

While a referral is still in their trial, your account shows them as “Trialing” so you can see the referral is in progress. Once they convert, it changes to “Active” and your credit is added.

How your credits get used

Your credit is a real dollar balance on your account, and it stacks:

• Each referral adds credit worth 50% of your plan price to your balance.
• The balance applies automatically to your upcoming bills. If your credit is more than your bill, the bill is fully covered and the remainder rolls forward to the next one.
• Credits never expire into cash. They stay as account credit toward your subscription.

You can see your current balance any time in your account, under “Refer a colleague,” shown as Earned credit. You will also see Pending credit, which is the credit on the way from colleagues who are still in their free trial.

A worked example

Say you are on the $99 plan and you refer three colleagues, and all three finish their trials and subscribe:

• Each referral adds about $49.50 of credit (50% of your $99 plan).
• After all three convert, you have about $148.50 in credit.
• Your next bill ($99) is fully covered by your balance, so that month is free, and about $49.50 rolls forward to reduce the month after that.

Meanwhile, each of those three colleagues got 50% off their own first month.

Who can earn credits

You need an active SOAP Note Buddy subscription to earn and use referral credits, since the credit applies to your own subscription. There is no limit on how many colleagues you can refer.

Common questions

Do I have to sign up for the referral program? No. Every subscriber automatically has a referral link waiting in their account.

Can I customize my referral link? Yes. The code inside your link (the part after ?ref=) can be customized to something more memorable, as long as it is not already taken.

What if my colleague forgets to use my link? The discount and your credit only apply when they sign up through your link. If they sign up without it, there is no way to apply it after the fact, so make sure they use your link when they sign up.

Is the referral program the same as the affiliate program? No. The referral program is for clinicians referring colleagues and pays in account credit. The separate affiliate program is for creators and influencers and pays cash commission. If you are driving a lot of signups and would prefer cash, contact support about the affiliate program.
